Interventionen – Refugees in Arts & Education

More than 200,000 people have applied for asylum in Germany in 2014. The related issues continue to dominate politics and media: Fear of the “strange” comes across on one hand while compassion and solidarity with the refugees resonate on the other.

In the search of new forms of collaboration and living together for a society of immigration a variety of cultural education projects are being developed. They are dealing with the subjects of arriving and remaining as well as aiming to achieve structural changes.

INTERVENTIONS invite protagonists with and without fugitive backgrounds from all over Germany in order to work on sustainable perspectives for cultural and educational work. The goal is to do everything possible to weave the realities of refugees into one common fabric, part of our society’s everyday life.

OPENING & OPEN STAGE REVUE 11/06, 7 – 9 pm

Young adults are going to take over the stage at the festival opening. Those who have arrived in Germany recently perform with those who have been living here for quite some time. In addition to the contributions from Berlin, adolescents from all over the country are able to showcase their talents. Afterwards there will be an opening party with open mic.

CONFERENCE 12/06, 10 am – 6 pm

In five parallel running workshops, experts on cultural education ask adolescents, adults, newcomers, artists: How do projects, social structures or campaigns consider the competencies and needs of refugees and asylum seekers and who takes on which role? The conference is to be understood as a “reality check” in order to develop constructive perspectives for the future. The results are presented in a plenary session.

Performance 12/06, 7:30 pm
In “coming of age oder was heißt erwachsen werden” a group of young Berliners and fugitives tinker with their coming of age. In German with Arabic subtitles. Theater an der Parkaue (Berlin)

FESTIVAL 13/06, 12 – 0 am
