The National Museum of Jamaica presents Narratives of Migration, an exhibition that brings together two distinct collections of ceramics by Jamaican artist and writer Jacqueline Bishop and 19th century Jewish business woman Rebecca Brandon.

Brandon’s ceramics often reflected stereotypes of people of African descent. In contrast, Bishop’s modern porcelain collection documents her family’s Empire Windrush journey, a passenger ship that docked at Tilbury, Essex, on June 22, 1948, bringing over 800 passengers from the Caribbean to Britain.

The exhibition offers a juxtaposition of historical and modern perspectives on the Black experience, shedding light on the realities of migration of many Jamaicans, their contributions, and ongoing struggle for dignity and recognition.
