Renowned and popular Kenyan artist, Michael Soi is holding a solo show of his portraits at the Circle Art Gallery, August 12 - 24, 2015 with an opening preview on 12th from 6pm Born in 1972, Soi studied at the Creative Arts Centre and joined Kuona Trust Centre for Visuals arts in 1995. In the last 20 years, Soi has travelled the world, exhibited widely and is in many important collections of contemporary African art including: ICC’s Luis Moreno Ocampo; human rights lawyer, Atsango Chesoni; Standard Chartered bank (UK) and most recently, actress Lupita Nyong’o. Considered controversial by some, Soi’s notorious paintings showing the ‘Circus of Life’ of his home town Nairobi, have become known worldwide. As one of Kenya’s most famous artistic social commentators he is not afraid to depict issues of corruption, prostitution, hypocrisy, big business and the economy which is getting his work talked about in international art circles. This exhibition will feature a new series of 18 previously unseen paintings entitled Faces and is a chance for old and new collectors to take home an original ‘Soi’ at affordable prices.
