Me ‘n’ Mines

25 Septembre 2025

Closes: 25 October 2025

Me ‘n’ Mines showcases new works by Bahamian artists Heino Schmid and Steven Schmid at Tern. The exhibition marks the first time the brothers present their practices together, each exploring themes of family, home, belonging and Bahamianness.

Steven Schmid works on themes of masculinity and otherness through painting, collage and assemblage. Using the figure as a central point of exploration, he constructs an aesthetic that explores how personal histories, stories, and ideologies can physically exist within a body, while also imagining how a body filled with contradictions may become a site of decolonial representation.

Heino Schmid exhibits three-dimensional and installation works composed of objects from the landscape and detritus alongside gestural drawings that compile moments, interactions, and idiosyncrasies from those in his immediate space.

Through Steven's use of repetition in his imagery and Heino's amalgamations of materials, both try to determine what a new world could look like if they and their beloveds were able to show up flawed, yet ready to work.
