Jimmy Robert: la musique dans la chambre

Jimmy Robert (b. 1975, Guadeloupe, France) produces works on paper, photographs, collages, sculptures, videos and artist books. His artistic practice explores the points of contact between body and material, as well as the representations and material conditions of bodies.
In the presentation at Künstlerhaus Bremen, the artist addresses the question of how his performance works can continue to be shown apart from being performed again in exhibitions. How can one approach a performance work anew without re-staging it? In this context, the exhibition will focus particularly on sound and bring together videos, works on paper as well as sculptural elements and sounds created in the framework of his performances.
After the exhibition, an artist's record with sounds from Robert's performances will be released in collaboration with the Cologne-based label Apparent Extent.
In cooperation with a seminar of the Institute for Art in Context at the Berlin University of the Arts, students of the master program investigated and wrote texts about the sonic aspects in Robert's performances. These texts are available in the exhibition and online. The seminar was led by Julia Grosse and Yvette Mutumba.
Curated by Nadja Quante.
