'Du Bois in our time'

The exhibition 'Du Bois in our time' presents Multi-media and site specific works that were created after several months of reflecting on the legacy of civil rights leader and Pan-Africanist, W.E.B. Du Bois, in our present era. The project, ‘Du Bois in our time’ started at the University of Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - home to a large collection of memorabilia, archive and writings of W.E.B. Du Bois and continued to Accra, his final resting place. 8 Ghanaian artists - Bernard Akoi-Jackson, Adwoa Amoah, Ato Annan, Yaganoma Baatuolkuu, Serge Clottey, Kelvin Haizel, Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh and Mawuli Tofah dared to challenge themselves with the production of multi-media art forms. After taking part in workshops with video and sound artists, Emeka Ogboh and Jude Anogwih from the Video Art Network, they embark on a journey of self-discovery in the world of multi-media art- using sound, photography, video and tools that majority of them had not used before. Artist, Mary Evans from UK has searched through several memories to create a site specific work using paper cuttings, plates and silhouettes to immerse, capture and energise the viewer with the spirit of the time of Kwame Nkrumah, Shirley Graham and W.E.B. Du Bois during the Pan-Africanist struggles. This exhibition was curated by Nubuke Foundation with support from Uzora Projects in Nigeria. Opening events will include a discussion, talk with artists and scholars, poetry readings and workshops over the 2 days. 5 March 2014 at 3:00pm Exhibition opening and panel discussion 6 March 2014 at 12:00pm Art workshops and launch of PAChub online platform W.E.B Du Bois Centre of Pan African culture Off 2nd Circular Road Cantonments Accra Ghana Further information can be found at: www.nubukefoundation.org
