Africa…and the other 54 countries: Focus on Ethiopia

Create Hub Gallery proudly presents a series of events celebrating the diversity of the arts and culture of the African continent. Each edition of the series will focus on a different African country, with the highlight of each event being an art exhibition, accompanied by a mesh of lively and creative activities. To launch the series is a sensational nigh celebrating Ethiopia, with art fashion, food and inspirational travel tips, being held on 17th March at Create Hub Gallery, which is located in Al Quoz, Dubai.

‘Africa …and the other 54 countries: Focus on Ethiopia’ opens to coincide with Dubai Art week, and will feature an exhibition with some of the Ethiopia’s most exciting contemporary artists. To enhance the event, Create Hub is working with global travel experts, Lightfoot Travel, East Africa fashion brand Efro & Co and food from Dubai’s most authentic Ethiopian restaurant, Zagol Betekitfo. In addition to this there will be music, coffee, craft, design – and of course the art – originating from Ethiopia.

Create Hub is the only gallery in the Middle East that focuses on contemporary artist from Africa and its diaspora. Gallery founder and Managing Director, Lidija Khachatourian explains, “Africa is often referred to as a single entity, or one country, when it is world’s second-largest and arguably most diverse continent.” She adds “With this series, Create Hub sets out to change the image of Africa as one homogenous place by presenting an array of art, culture and entertainment that showcases the diversity of Africa.”

The artists participating in “Africa…and the other 54 countries: Focus on Ethiopia” are; Nahosenay Negussie, Brook Yeshitila, Workneh Bezu, Henok Ayele, Dawit Tefera and Adiy Ashete – who are amongst the most talented artists working in Ethiopia today. Whilst many of the works are inspired by their country of origin, each artist presents a vastly different and unique style, theme and expertise – many exploring unconventional painting techniques and artistry that are sure to fascinate audiences. Whilst some of the artists are already gaining international acclaim for their talents, all of them are recognized as the leading contemporary artists working in Ethiopia today.

The fashion brand Efro & Co will showcase their fabulous fusion designs which are inspired by East Africa attire. Dubai-based designer Dina Yassin, who is behind the brand, uses fabrics sourced and processed in East Africa, as well as the talent and innovation of local skilled crafts-people. The food will be provided by the highly authentic restaurant, Zagol Betekitfo, which is the dining choice of Ethiopians’ resident in Dubai.
