Voyage of [Re]Discovery

Voyage of [Re]Discovery shows works of nine artists, poets and writers from Ghana, Uganda, South Africa and USA at the Nubuke Foundation gallery and the Ussher Fort Prison in Accra. The exhibition – commemorating Ghana’s 58th Independence Day celebration – is a search for meaning through contemporary interrogation of history. Ethnicities have integrated to form nations whose collective history erupted out of a brutally violent struggle to preserve their intrinsic rights. The exhibition focuses on the Ussher Fort prison as a site of colonial and post-independence memories, the participants engage its inherent narratives to make commentary on history as is understood through Eurocentric epistemologies and what it means for a colonial subject to be independent. The exhibition will open at Nubuke Foundation on 5th March and at the Ussher Fort prison on 6th March with guided tours between 10am and 12pm each day from 6th to 13th March. Pariticipants: Adjo Kisser, Basil Kincaid, Dzyadzorm Akua Medie, Kitso Lynn Lelliott, Bernard Akoi-Jackson, Robert Obeng Nkrumah, Chief Moomen, Serubiri Moses, Kelvin Haizel Organizer: Nubuke Foundation Partner: Ghana Museum and Monuments Board Curator: Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh Nubuke Foundation (5th March – 26 April 2015) Exhibition opening 5th March 5:30pm at Nubuke Foundation, East Legon, Accra.
