TW’EZUULE (Re-discover) A public roundtable discussion within KLA ART 014 Contemporary Art Festival
Goethe-Zentrum Kampala/UGCS and Makerere Art Gallery/ MIHCR in collaboration with KLA ART 014 present the TW´EZUULE symposium, with national and international speakers on two panels. Saturday, 11th October 2014, 10am to 6pm at Goethe-Zentrum Kampala/UGCS Conference Room Plot 52 Bukoto Street, Kamwokya . Panel I: 10am to 1pm – ‘UNMAPPED’ ‘Unmapped’ explores the social settings of African cities and how changes in the political and economic landscape influence or inspire a creativity of survival in the inhabitants of the unplanned areas of the cities. Unmapped is a quest for implications of different urban living and working conditions and for artistic interpretations of those. Moderator: Patrick Mudekereza (Centre d’Art Picha in Lubumbashi, DR Congo) Speakers: Odile Tevie (Nubuke Foundation, Ghana) Christophe Roussin (Directeur adjoint de l’Institut français de RDC in Kinshasa) Moses Serubiri (KLA ART 014, curatorial team, Uganda) Mulugeta Gebrekidan (KLA ART 014, artist, Ethiopia) Panel II: 3pm to 6pm – ‘Past and Present of Exhibition Making in Eastern Africa’ The discussion of the afternoon session reflects on the intentions of exhibition making, questioning why and how those intentions might have changed. Interrogating the paradigms of artistic production and curating in Eastern Africa today, questioning how knowledge on art is generated and disseminated, how the past informs the present, are some of the issues for discussion in this session. Moderator: Margaret Nagawa (artist, curator, writer, UG/Ethiopia) Speakers: Sidney Kasfir (Art historian, USA/Kenya) Emma Wolukau-Wanambwa (Artist/researcher, UK/UG) Angelo Kakande (Margeret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts, UG) Daudi Karungi (Afriart Gallery, Kampala Art Biennale, UG) The symposium is generously supported by Arts Collaboratory.
