Reading Suzanne Césaire

Reading Suzanne Césaire

{{I:Reading Suzanne Césaire}} is a reading group session inspired by Madeleine Hunt-Ehrlich: Too Bright to See (Part I), a film installation focusing on the legacy of Martinican writer Suzanne Césaire, currently on view at Pérez Art Museum Miami's (PAMM). The session is presented by PAMM's Caribbean Cultural Institute (CCI).

Participants will think through Suzanne's writings in a space for collective reading and reflection on her literary work and legacy. The session will be led by scholar Annette Joseph-Gabriel and film curator and writer Dessane Lopez Casell, who will guide and encourage a generative conversation around Suzanne's work. The session also includes a poetic offering by Martinican poet and writer Simone Lagrand.

During this reading group session, we will focus on a selection of essays from the book "The Great Camouflage: Writings of Dissent"(1941–1945), written by Suzanne Césaire.

• "The Great Camouflage" (pp. 39-46)

• "Alain and Aesthetics" (pp. 11-18)

Participants will receive a link to the selected reading material upon registration.
