Jean-Michel Basquiat en Brasil

La mayor exposición de Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) presentada en América Latina fue exhibida en el Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil de las ciudades de São Paulo, Brasilia y Belo Horizonte, incluyendo 80 obras del artista que pertenecen al archivo particular del mayor coleccionista de Basquiat, Jose Mugrabi, con curaduría de Pieter Tjabes.

La exposición trae varias obras del artista, entre ellas pinturas, collages, bosquejos e incluso platos de cerámica. Basquiat nació y se crió en Brooklyn, Nueva York. Su obra está fuertemente marcada por la presencia de la ciudad en los años 1970 y 1980, entre otros a través de grafitos. Basquiat, uno de los pocos artistas afroamericanos en una escena de artes mayoritariamente blanca, supo cómo subvertir convenciones al mezclar cultura pop y erudita.
