The Jack Shainman Gallery was established in 1984 in Washington, DC, but moved to New York soon after its opening. The gallery presents, represents and supports artists from all over the world, but its focus is on artists from Africa, East Asia and North America, such as Zwelethu Mthethwa, Tallur L.N., El Anatsui, Malick Sidibé, Deborah N. Luster or Anton Kannemeyer.
The gallery hosts approx. 12 exhibitions a year, publishes catalogues and scholarly articles and takes part in the major international art fairs such as Art Basel, Art Basel Miami or the Armory Show in New York. In addition, it maintains solid contacts with museums and serves as a broker for its artists in important international exhibitions.
In 2013, the Gallery opened two additional exhibition spaces, one in Chelsea at 524 West 24th Street, and another in a converted 30,000 square foot building in Kinderhook, NY known as The School.
