The MINSK Kunsthaus in Potsdam is presenting the largest international institutional survey to date of the late artist Noah Davis (1983-2015), running from September 7, 2024, to January 5, 2025. This major touring exhibition, featuring approximately 60 works, provides a comprehensive overview of Davis’ complete oeuvre. It will be Davis’ first international institutional retrospective, which will later travel to the Barbican in London and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.
Curated chronologically, the retrospective traces Davis’ creative journey from his first exhibition in 2007 to his untimely death in 2015. The exhibition includes previously unseen paintings, works on paper, and sculptures, highlighting the art historical and conceptual aspects of his practice. Davis’ work, centered on the exploration of Black life, combines influences from anonymous photography, personal archives, film, television, music, literature, art history, and his imagination. His paintings often depict enigmatic and evocative scenes that reflect a deep sensitivity to human existence.
