SEASON AFRICA 2020

N’Goné Fall appointed General Commissioner of the Season Africa 2020

The SEASON AFRICA 2020 is an invitation to look, learn and understand the world from an Africain perspective and will take place over six months from June 2020 in metropolitan France and in its overseas regions and territories.

N’Goné Fall will take on the role of General Commissioner of the SEASON AFRICA 2020, an invitation to look, learn and understand the world from an Africain perspective. Initiated by Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, SEASON AFRICA 2020 will take place over six months from June 2020 in metropolitan France and in its overseas regions and territories.

N’Goné Fall was appointed at the suggestion of Jean-Yves Le Drian, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and of Françoise Nyssen, France’s Culture Minister.

A graduate of the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris, N’Goné Fall is a Senegalese curator, essayist and consultant in cultural policies.

She has been the editorial director of the contemporary African art magazine Revue Noire (Paris) from 1994 to 2001. She edited several publications on visual arts in Africa including Anthology of African Art : the twentieth century (Revue Noire 2001) ; Photographers from Kinshasa (Revue Noire 2001) ; Anthology of African and Indian Ocean Photography (Revue Noire 1998). As a consultant in cultural policies, she is the author of strategic plans, orientation programmes and evaluation reports for governments as well as for national and international cultural institutions in Africa, Europe, the USA and the Caribbean.

N’Goné Fall was associated professor on the Cultural Industries Master programme at the Université Senghor in Alexandria in Egypt (2007-2011). She has also taught on the Curating the Archives programmes at the Michaelis School of Fine Arts of Cape Town in South Africa (2017), and in the Arts and Culture department of the Université Abdou Moumouni in Niamey in Niger (2018).

She has curated numerous exhibitions in Africa, Europe and the USA. She was a guest curator at the Bamako Photography Encounters in 2001 and at the Dakar Contemporary Art Biennial in 2002. Her last major project, in Denmark in 2016, wich was inspired by the famous novel Things Fall Apart by the Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe.

N’Goné Fall is a co-founder of the Dakar-based collective GawLab, a research and production platform for art in the urban space and digital technologies applied to artistic creation.

The SEASON AFRICA 2020 in France will be operated by the Institut français.
