Dorine Mokha (1989-2021)

Congolese dancer, choreographer, and author Dorine Mokha has passed away.

Born in November 1989 in Lubumbashi, Dorine Mokha was a dancer, choreographer, and author. He was artistic co-director of the ART’gument Project in Lubumbashi and associate artist at Studios Kabako in Kisangani.

Dorine has been involved in various audio and video works in collaboration with international artists and developed a strong personal work, including his autobiographical trilogy Entre deux (2013, 2015, 2020) and the collaborative oratorio piece about Congo mines Hercules of Lubumbashi (2019).

Among others, he received a scholarship from the Akademie Schloss Solitude to study from 2014 to 2015, was participant in the Seminar in Avignon at the Festival d’Avignon (2017), Selected Artist for the Pro Helvetia Studio Residencies in Switzerland (2019), and more recently for the 11th Berlin Biennale (2020).

He held a Master’s Degree in Social and Economic Law from the University of Kisangani (2013) and was regularly writing for theatre, music, film, as well as contributing to literary journals.

 

Dorine Mokha has passed away very unexpectedly after a short illness on Friday, 8 January 2021.
