Artist Solidarity Fund

African Artists’ Foundation has always been committed to the development and growth of contemporary African artists and organizations, lending their minds and voices to tell our stories. To facilitate this growth, we are excited to announce our collaboration with the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) to create the Artist Solidarity Fund.

Artist Solidarity Fund is a support fund to artists and organizations seeking resources and support to keep creating works of immense value and contemporary relevance in Africa. This fund is subcategorized into three funds – Emergency Support Fund, Education Support Fund and Project Support Fund.

The Emergency Support Fund grants 10 artists $300 each, towards relieving urgent financial needs as a result of COVID 19 fallout. Funds will go towards studio space rent, arts materials, and towards small projects etc.

Requirements
Proof of at least 2 years of arts practice (social media will suffice)
Recommendation letter from an arts industry mentor
Artist statement
Portfolio & CV

The Education Support Fund grants 7 artists a sum of $1,000 each, towards skills acquisition in the arts from accredited institutions or programs.

Requirements
Letter of recommendation from a member of faculty of any arts program
Letter of motivation for the program you are applying for
Proof of admission into an arts program
Portfolio & CV

The Project Support Fund grants artists or organizations a sum of $20,000, $ 10,000, $5,000 or $1,000 towards short to medium-term visual projects that address pressing social issues. This support can be given to arts organizations that prove their excellence in the field.

Documentation that proves qualification to execute project (CVs, evidence of past projects, etc)
Proof of registration (for organizations)
Project proposal
Project budget

The application window for these funds is June 21st – July 12th, 2021. Successful applicants will be contacted by the end of August. We are excited to see the amazing proposals and projects you have in store.
