TOTEMS OF UGANDA - BUGANDA EDITION: BOOK LAUNCH/ART EXHIBITION
21 November 2014
The Totems of Uganda; Buganda Edition exhibition was held in 2012 for two weeks at the Uganda Museum and attracted over 5,000 people at the opening and registered 50,000 overall attendees. The art work and its accompanying research have now resulted into this book which is a collection of full color illustrations of totems (Miziro) and secondary totems (Bubbiro). The main objective of this project is to conserve, preserve and educate. The book "Totems of Uganda - Buganda edition" by Ugandan artist Taga Nuwagaba and Nathan Kiwere is the beginning of a long process of recording all totems of Uganda to show the world the role of the Ugandan culture in protecting the environment and all it harbours. All the species highlighted in all the books will be translated in more than six languages putting emphasis on local names. The book will teach the youth about their culture and to all visitors who come to Uganda, it will cast good light on the values unknown to the world that Ugandan people stand for. Besides that, it will show our rich wildlife heritage that is almost unmatched in the world. It briefly teaches about the origins of the different clans, conservation of wildlife through community participation, the significance of totems, detailed description of species so that people in Uganda especially children can identify them and all the attributes and symbolism behind every animal. This book will serve all visitors who come to Uganda with so much interesting knowledge that they usually miss. www.facebook.com/meandmytotem
