COLOGNE POETRY FESTIVAL POETIC VOICES AFRICA: “I SING A NEW FREEDOM” THU, 22 MAY - SAT, 24 MAY 2014 Opening: Thu, 22 May 2014, 7:30 pm The African continent boasts a wealth of multilingual and often politically charged “poetic voices.” The festival Poetic Voices Africa will introduce a selection of poetry-, performance-, and spoken word artists, whose words and speech intervene in the social realities of their countries, while at the same time engaging in international exchange. Seeking also to initiate dialogue with German-speaking authors, the festival presents a series of roundtable discussions, in which participants discuss their working conditions, as well as publishing avenues and networks. All festival events will take place in German and English or French. Wed/Thu 21/22 May 2014, 10 am–4 pm & Fri, 23 May 2014, 10 am–1 pm, 30 € Lecture performance: not a self-portrait With Faustin Linyekula Fri, 23 May 2014, 8 pm The Exchange Project is a residency and mentoring program, which promotes exchange between young choreographers from Africa and Germany. The results of the exchange are presented as part of the event series “HOW TO LIVE!” Project initiators Faustin Linyekula, member of the Academy and a dancer and choreographer from Kinshasa, Congo, and Silke Z., a Cologne-based choreographer, will offer a three-day dance workshop in May 2014. In a lecture performance presented on the last day of the workshop, Linyekula will approach dance as a form of remembrance.
