France-Portugal Season 2022 Residency

Arquipélago — Contemporary Art Center, S. Miguel, Azores, Portugal
Deadline: 16 January 2022

France-Portugal Season 2022 Residency

As part of the France-Portugal Season 2022, is an artistic residency project led by the collective Fetart, based in Paris and represented by Carine Dolek, and Ci.CLO Photography Platform, based in Porto and represented by Virgílio Ferreira.
brings together 2 artists and
2 curators (2 Portuguese, 2 French).

The call for applications is open
to emerging and established artists working with photography and/or video aiming to develop new work in an artistic residency in S. Miguel, Azores. The process is based on collaborative dynamics to reinforce critical thinking and the sharing experiences between everyone involved in the residencies.

The project is based on a partnership between the Fetart collective and Ci.CLO Photography Platform, and with the support of Portuguese and French institutions.

The project brings together 2 artists and
2 curators (2 Portugueses, 2 French) to work around the idea of ‘oasis’
as a psychogeographic territory
of regeneration but also as a fragile ecosystem in our planet in crisis.

The residence will be held on the island of S. Miguel, in the Azores; the workplace will be at the Arquipélago — Contemporary Art Center.

The 2 resident artists are expected to exchange ideas with the curators, focusing on their proposals and the progress of their work. The residency will be a laboratory for reflection, sharing of skills and experiences,
and will encourage the contaminaioin of practices between the artists. One month after the residency the artists will deliver their final projects  with the curatorial follow-up of Fetart and Ci.CLO in a virtual environment.

The residency collaborative process will be documented in a publication, and the work will be published online. The residency will be publicly presented during the first week
of the Rencontres d’Arles.

The presentation formats will aim to document the work developed by the artists, taking into consideration their collaborative strategies and peer learning during the residency.

The residency is organized and produced by the collective Fetart and Ci.CLO. The monitoring of the creative process during the residency and the curating of the online presenta- tion and publication will also be a collaborative effort between Fetart, represented by Carine Dolek, and Ci.CLO, represented by Virgílio Ferreira.

The selected artists allow the cura- tors to use their sketches, to take pictures of them working and to in- terview and quote them.
