Gal-dem is looking for a knowledgeable and well-organised chief sub editor to join the team.

As a Chief Sub-Editor you are developing gal-dem’s style guide, supporting gal-dem’s editorial and ensuring that copy across the is grammatically and factually correct and written in a gal-dem tone of voice.
Gal-dem is looking for someone who has a clear knowledge of culture, arts and politics and shares gal-dem’s mission. They should understand the lived experiences of women and non-binary people of colour and have an instinct for strong headlines, standfirsts, captions and proof reading.
Applicants must be able to work at speed and should have at least two years of relevant experience working within the journalism industry, have a good understanding of media law and should be comfortable taking a subbing test. They must be comfortable working with Google Docs and InDesign.

KEY SKILLS:

• Writing, editing and proofreading text
• Making sure that gal-dem’s style is adhered to
• Writing headlines, picture captions and story summaries
• Editing reports, press releases and social media copy
• Liaising with gal-dem’s journalists, reporters and editors
• Verifying information and story details
• Ensuring that stories are the right length and correctly placed on pages
• Sizing photographs and placing them within features
• Making sure that stories are accurate and do not compromise legality

SALARY:

 24k-26k per annum dependent upon experience.
