Cheikh Ndiaye: Memory Devices

Cheikh Ndiaye: Memory Devices
Galerie Cécile Fakhoury presents Memory Devices, a special project by artist Cheikh Ndiaye at the project space in Abidjan.
While we’re all familiar with the series of West African cinemas, architectural objects that Cheikh Ndiaye has set up as a medium for social and historical reading, here the artist opens up his practice by offering different points of view: from cinemas we move on to churches, from the exterior we enter the interior, and starting from the present we travel back in time to observe images from the past. A space-time journey in which Cheikh Ndiaye takes pleasure in zooming in on building details and capturing iconic film images to provide, again and again, a record of the West African landscape in all its complexity and emotion.
