Amir Nour: Brevity is the Soul of Wit – A Retrospective (1956-Present)

28 October 2016

Closes: 12 January 2017

Sharjah Art Foundation presents the solo show of Amir Nour: Brevity is the Soul of Wit.

This retrospective exhibition, covers the fifty-year career span of the American-based Sudanese artist and will include early drawings, photographs, sculptures and new commissions by Amir Nour. By using a wide range of media including bronze, stainless steel, cement, plaster and wood, Nour creates non-figurative and highly abstract works that reflect his ability to integrate methods, techniques, forms and ideas drawn from his dual experience as an African living in the West. This exhibition will feature the transitional period that Nour went through, creating a sense of traditional African imagery with the visual vocabulary and materials of Western minimalism.

The exhibition is co-curated by Sharjah Art Foundation‘s Director and President Hoor Al Qasimiand Dr Salah M. Hassan, Goldwin Smith Professor of African and African Diaspora Art History and Visual Culture in the Africana Studies and Research Centre, and in the Department of History of Art and Visual Studies, Cornell University.
