The Center for Historical Reenactments (CHR) is a Johannesburg-based independent platform founded in 2010 by the artist and curator Gabi Ngcobo.

In exhibitions, events, seminars and workshops, CHR sets out to explore history and its interactions with contemporary art. Through artistic practices, the restaging and reprocessing of historical events, the Center for Historical Reenactment seeks to find answers to current social and political issues and to make a new, independent perception of history possible. At the same time it explores the political potential of artistic interpretations of history.

The Center for Historical Reenactments (CHR) is closed since January 2016, but they’re still regularly publishing cultural related content on their facebook page.
