Curatorial Fellowship at MEWO Kunsthalle

The MEWO Kunsthalle in Memmingen is looking for a young curator for a 18 month fellowship in 2016/7. MEWO Kunsthalle presents an ambitious exhibition programme that covers a broad range of art and visual culture, providing direct access to current artistic production as well as to historic positions in the context of a provincial town. This position is deliberately aimed at curators from outside of Europe and North America.

This role will be responsible for researching and curating the exhibition project ‘GOING NATIVE – Strategies of Appropriation’ that is to be held in Spring/Summer 2017, and will also provide curatorial support to the Director of MEWO Kunsthalle researching new exhibitions as well as the collection.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in a visual arts related discipline and must have significant experience of working in a gallery or museum. Experience of curating contemporary art is essential and a demonstrable interest and knowledge of post-colonial history and theory is desirable.

The ideal candidate will present a clear and ordered approach to work with meticulous attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills are vital as the post-holder must be able to liaise with people at all levels. The ability to work under pressure and a calm and flexible attitude is also necessary. Proficiency in a variety of computer packages is essential. The working language is English. German language training is available prior and/or during the fellowship.
