Alexander Rave Foundation in the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations, ifa)

Germany

The Alexander Rave Foundation dates back to an endowment by businessman Alexander Rave in 1942. Since 2001, the Rave Scholarship has provided young curators, restorers, museum technicians and cultural managers from countries in transition and developing countries with a three- to six-month practical training period at a non-commercial institution in the area of the fine arts in Germany.

The scholarship makes an important contribution towards continuing practical training in realisation, outreach and conservation relative to exhibitions and projects in the visual arts. To date, some 100 restorers, museum technicians, curators and cultural managers from more than 50 countries have had an opportunity to gain insights and fresh experience in their respective career fields through work and training in museums, galleries or artists’ initiatives throughout Germany. In addition, until 2012 the Rave Research Prize in Foreign Cultural Policy was presented for outstanding Master’s and Diploma theses or doctoral dissertations in the field of foreign cultural and educational policy. From 2013, the ifa Research Prize is presented directly by the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen.
