Department of History and Cultural Studies at Art History Institute at Freie Universität Berlin is employing a University professor for the arts and visual cultures of Africa (Salary group: W 3 or comparable employment relationship)

Further requirements:

  • excellent knowledge of the arts and visual culture of Africa
  • Examination of current cultural-scientific discourses and questions of method
  • international university teaching experience and excellent research activities
  • Experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects
  • Experience with interdisciplinary work contexts
  • Ability to conduct courses in German or English

Expectations for future work:

In addition to the official tasks resulting in particular from Section 99 BerlHG, the appointed person is also expected to perform the activities listed below:

  • Cooperation with the other regional focal points at the Art History Institute as well as the local collections, museums and scientific institutions (e.g. Berlin State Museums etc.)
  • Participation in internal university research initiatives in the humanities
  • Participation in existing or planned regional and supra-regional collaborative research projects
  • Willingness to acquire any lack of knowledge of German or English within three years
  • Treatment of gender and diversity approaches relevant to the discipline in research, administration and teaching.
