With his personal exposition at Galerie Chauvy, presented in Paris, from October 3 through November 30, 2019, Soly Cissé testifies his long-time ecological conviction and more than ever contemporary – The question of Nature is part of his personal and family history; inseparable for him from the environment, going hand in hand with the protection of animals. Fifteen paintings total, which certain are executed in tar, invoke the world of the animal – ostriches, turkeys, dogs, fish… They illustrate such as human comedy, the battle for the power of some, and the life or the death of the others.

Born in 1969, Soly Cissé is a mixed media painter and sculptor from Dakar. Cissé graduated from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Dakar, in 1996. He continued his formation in Belgium at the Ecole de la Recherché Graphique (ERG) in Brussels. He has had numerous exhibitions in galleries and museums in Europe, the Americas and throughout Africa. His work also featured in the seminal exhibition Africa Remix (2004-2007), Dak’Art Biennale de l’Art African Contemporain (2006), the Havana Biennial (2000) and Sao Paulo Biennial, Brazil (1998). He is listed by Forbes as among the top 100 contemporary African Artists based on monetary value alone.
