Race, Power & Culture : A Critical Look at Belgian Cultural Institutions

The Symposium ‘Race, Power and Culture’ is organised by BOZAR as part of the Creative Europe project DIS-OTHERING- beyond Afropolitan & other labels, a collaborative project taking on the challenge to deconstruct othering practices in cultural institutions of Austria, Belgium and Germany.

As one of the largest cultural institutions in Belgium, BOZAR aspires through this symposium to learn from the experience and perspectives of Belgian activists, academics, artists and other cultural institutions of the country. At the same time, it acknowledges the complexities and the pitfalls of racial power dynamics and diversity initiatives. ‘Race, Power and Culture’ aims therefore to be an event where dialogues among these stakeholders should bear new strategies on the necessary deconstruction of these dynamics in European cultural institutions.
