Mangaung Art Fair 2019

Nestled in the heart of South Africa, Bloemfontein will seize the occasion to put the city and the Free State Art landscape on the map through this integral and key event for the city’s local art scene. This Art showcase will endeavour to fuse the historical narratives of Bloemfontein with the contemporary South African Art scene by representing the many cultures and languages that have descended in the Free State.

From the 1 March – 3 March 2019, the Mangaung Art Fair will be set to inspire Art lovers in the Free State and beyond. Curated to showcase local talent and International artists, the fair is built around four main themed exhibition spaces:

1) The People Shall Govern – Below The Towers

This particular exhibition space will be a documentary photographic exhibition, focusing on the the photographer as a collaborator in the process of production.

2) Towering above the Hill – The Nelson Mandela Legacy”

The exhibition space welcomes 20 artists. The particular exhibition will be at the centre of the Fair, rendering a snapshot into the life and times of the figure towering above Bloemfontein. In full consultation with the Head Curator, the Fair’s board and Director will select work that will encompass the very creative nature of the exhibition space, envisioned under the above theme.

3) Pathways in Africa

Video Art is practised by very few artists living and working in Africa. One of the exhibition spaces will be dedicated to the artists who explore and championed the usage of the medium. This section of fair is curated by the appointed curator and artworks are selected at the curator’s discretion.

4) We The People II

An exhibition space dedicated to galleries, project spaces and Arts Institutions around the continent.

 

As an emerging Art Fair, we value the spaces that house and increase the visibility of artists within our continent and beyond. As such, we would like to Invite galleries, project spaces and Arts Institutions to curate, exhibit and showcase artist’s work in this section of the Fair.
