Dan Oracle

During Frieze London, artist Ana Beatriz de Almeida presents Vodoun Dan, an oracle unfolding across three sites — Cubitt Gallery, Firepit Gallery (SE), and Brixton Village (SW). The triptych of installations explores Vodoun as a living cosmology, weaving together ancestral, spiritual, and performative practices across continents.

At Cubitt, de Almeida connects the Yoruba Nigerian divination system of Ifa—the ancient root of Vodoun—to its transnational heritage from Benin to Haiti and its resonance in Afro-Indigenous Brazilian traditions such as Candomblé and Bumba Meu Boi. The work expands in Firepit, where Ta'wua e K Brito, artists grounded in conviviality and performance, create an immersive environment reflecting on collective memory and transformation.

The final chapter unfolds at Brixton Village with performances by TRIBE (NIG) and Angi Aniwura (NIG), joined by Awoyinfa Elebuibon, a prince of Osogbo, to evoke rituals of grief, renewal, and spiritual continuity. Opening rituals will be led by Iyanifa Omobolanle of the Ifareduwa Temple UK and Simone Amorin, founder of Música com Dendê, linking Yoruba and Afro-Brazilian leadership in the UK.
