Première Brasil 2014

HKW presents a “best of” from the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival. Première Brasil presents stories of yearning, of striving for justice and social advancement and the dangers of falling, documents from the reality of a society of great contrasts and images that tell of isolation in the big city. Directors Caru Alves de Souza, Fernando Coimbra and Aly Muritiba as well as actress Rita Batata will be on hand to discuss the issues highlighted by the films in the program. Find the full program me of the festival here Opening, panel, short film lounge: Free admission Wednesday 29 October 2014 Opening with the film "Serra Pelada" (7pm) and a concert by Rainhas do Norte (9.30pm) Saturday, 01 November 6 pm Panel Discussion: A new generation of filmmakers? With the directors Caru Alves de Souza, Fernando Coimbra, Aly Muritiba and actress Rita Batata, Moderation: Ilda Santiago, Director of the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival. Brazil is a young nation. although population growth has slowed in recent years, nearly one fourth of the 200 million Brazilians are under 15 years of age and the average age is 30. The new protest movement arose within this age group: a new generation of well-educated, politically interested and critical individuals. How do young Brazilians live, think and feel? What do they expect from the future? And how do the film directors of this generation view their world? What conflicts trouble them? Under what production conditions do they work? Are they united by any specific filmic language? Free admission Portuguese with German translation PREMIÈRE BRASIL is a cooperation with the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival, supported by the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations and the Brazilian Embassy in Berlin. http://hkw.de
