What is the significance of independent art spaces and artistic interventions for the development of a city? What is the role that art can, should or will play in the action of urban transformation? What are the possibilities and limits of participation in the urban development processes that the cultural sector sees? Using practical examples from Stuttgart and Cairo chances and risks, expectations and perspectives of artistic practice in urban space will be discussed.
