Open Lab – Ephermal Archival Station #1

The e.a.st. laboratory was formed as a sharing platform for artist(s)- (/)researcher(s). Through each research work, e.a.st. questions the concepts involved in the process, development, as well as modes of expression modes for artistic research material, temporarily and finally questioning: how to transcend the traditional (museum, gallery, specialized publication, etc.) in order to translate artistic research methodologies within diverse platforms.

On Saturday, May 26, they invite the larger audience to share with them the experience and tracing of an artistic research laboratory.

Members and associate members of the e.a.st. laboratory have housed regular interventions for several months. These interventions focused principally on developing a specific vocabulary for artistic research.

e.a.st. proposes a new exchange format, through their research presentation and discussions at the core on their interaction, they intend to specify together a grammar of artistic research practice. The laboratory’s open doors will also be an opportunity for members to present a collective work produced for this event (PODCAST e.a.st. v.1)

e.a.st. (Ephemeral Archival Station) is an entity created and managed by Euridice Kala (artist and researcher) in September 2017, encompassing several long-term artistic research with the aim of linking ideas/reflections across different spaces and modes of production.

e.a.st. is composed of Euridice Kala, Marie Voignier, Mbali Dhlamini, Teo Betin, Steeve Bauras, and Quentin Mornay. The east lab place two times a month to discuss each other’s practices and research topics. These moments allow for a revealing of dynamic perspectives around work and research. Serving as types of workshop; the objective is not only to produce forms but to develop a methodology and a grammar specific to artistic research.

These common reflections are then formatted into exhibitions, audio recordings, and publications. Today e.a.st. offers a diversity of perspectives where each of the artist-researcher engages their research in relation to geopolitical, historical, sociological and cultural territories.

As artists work alongside a variety of disciplines that contribute decisively to the creation of new theoretical knowledge and content, e.a.st bases its foundation on the abstraction of structural ideas –by making obsolete perceptions of the world of art, theory and everyday life.
