Metropolitan Museum launches the second season of The Artist Project

The Metropolitan Museum announced the second season of The Artist Project. Ever since it was founded in 1870, The Metropolitan Museum of Art has been a place where artists come to gain inspiration from works of art from their own time and place, and also from across time and cultures. The Artist Project is an online series in which the artists are given an opportunity to respond to the Met's encyclopedic collection. Beginning March 2015, for one year, The Metropolitan Museum of Art will invite 100 artists—local, national, and global—to choose individual works of art or galleries that spark their imaginations. In this online series, artists reflect on what art is, what inspires them from across 5,000 years of art, and in so doing, they reveal the power of a museum and The Met. Their unique and passionate ways of seeing and experiencing art encourage all museum visitors to look in a personal way. Artists included in the second installment are: Roz Chast, Willie Cole, Teresita Fernández, Spencer Finch, Roland Flexner, Jeffrey Gibson, Y.Z. Kami, Il Lee, Glenn Ligon, Robert Longo, Nalini Malani, Kerry James Marshall, Mariko Mori, Robert Polidori, Rona Pondick, David Salle, Pat Steir, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Sarah Sze, and Hank Willis Thomas. https://player.vimeo.com/video/129020114?api=1 Explore season 1 of the The Artist Project featuring Nick Cave, Mickalene Thomas and Kehinde Wiley. http://artistproject.metmuseum.org/2/
