Lagos_live : international performance festival

lagos_live is an international performance festival that took place the first time in 2012, organized by Goethe-Institut Nigeria. It comes back this year with the aim to present contemporary performance projects from different genres, live-theater, installation, dance, music, visual art.

Goethe-Institut Nigeria has partnered with several local and international artists and institutions to present new artistic creations. The international co-production “We almost forgot” by Nigerian dancer Qudus Onikeku will be shown, as well as “Sorry” by Berlin based theater performance group Monster Truck, a collaboration with the Footprints of David (Lagos). Others include Austrian theater company Theater im Bahnhof, Crown Troupe of Nigeria, Nigerian dancers Sunday Israel Akpan, Busayo Olowu, Taiwo Ojudun and theater practitioner Joshua Alabi.

The visual arts will be represented by curator Alafuro Sikoki-Coleman who is presenting five upcoming visual artists, photographers, designers, performers; amongst whom we have Odun Orimolade, Segun Adefila, Danielle Dean, Loza Maléombho, Adeju Thompson and Ikechukwu Onyewuenyi.

German experimental sound artist Christina Kubisch will present for the first time in Africa her series “Electrical walks”, where she captures electro-magnetic waves from the street and transforms them into sound lines, through specially adapted headphones.

Another highlight is the presence of the Pan-African Space Station at the festival, under supervision by Ntone Edjabe from Chimurenga. During four days this pop-up internet radio-station will transmit from Freedom Park and host an eclectic mix of artist and music sessions.

Festival venues are Freedom Park, Federal Government Press, the Colonial Secretariat and Goethe-Institut Nigeria.

Dates of the festival are 24-26 June, with programs starting at 10am and ending at 11pm.
