Kamila Soares: From Brazil with Love

Wunika Mukan Gallery presents From Brazil with Love, A solo Exhibition featuring the evocative works of Afro-Brazilian artist Kamila Soares. This Exhibition marks a significant moment in Soares’ career, as it is her first solo Exhibition. Through a series of seven paintings, Soares offers a visual dialogue between past and present, memory and imagination, homeland and distance.

Soares, a São Paulo-based artist, sees painting not merely as a means of personal expression but as a record of thought—a layering of influences, memories, and ideas translated into vivid compositions. With From Brazil with Love, she weaves together elements of nostalgia and belonging, each canvas infused with a color from the Brazilian flag, signifying her deep-rooted connection to her homeland.

Her work oscillates between sunlit leisure and shadowed introspection, offering glimpses of imagined landscapes and moments suspended in time. Some scenes radiate the warmth of outdoor serenity, while others dwell in the quiet solitude of contemplation. This interplay between vibrancy and melancholy reflects the dualities of distance—the longing for home and the beauty of new horizons.

Soares’ artistic process is deeply intuitive, informed by fleeting thoughts, personal encounters, and a vast archive of visual and literary references. Her paintings emerge from a convergence of internal and external stimuli—scenes from her daily life, fragments of conversations, images from magazines, and the works of artists she admires. The most important thing is to create something that satisfies me visually and aesthetically, she explains.

As Wunika Mukan Gallery’s first in-house exhibition of 2025, From Brazil with Love sets the stage for a year of dynamic artistic explorations.
