Jumana Manna: Wild Relatives

A presentation of the new video, Wild Relatives by Jumana Manna, commissioned as part of the 10th Satellite Program, will be on view at the CAPC musée d’art contemporain de Bordeaux.

In recent projects, Jumana Manna (b.1987) has used film and sculpture to recompose various archival materials that pertain to historical narratives of the Levant and northern Europe. These works have explored the ways in which economic, political, and interpersonal forms of power, condition architectural sites as well as human and plant life. In Wild Relatives, Manna follows the matrix of hierarchies and relationships involved in a transaction of seeds between the Norwegian town of Longyearbyen in Svalbard, an island in the Arctic Ocean, and the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon. The film tackles intertwining global environmental and ideological issues through the simple quotidian lives of people.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with contributions by Dr. Shela Sheikh and Jumana Manna. A concurrent exhibtion at Maison d’art Bernard Anthonioz, Paris, will run from November 30 through February 4, 2018.

The exhibtion is part of ‘The Economy of Living Things’, a proposal for the Satellite programme 2017 by Osei Bonsu.
