Jeremy Wafer: INDEX

Jeremy Wafer: INDEX
02 March 2017
Closes: 15 April 2017
On 9 March Goodman Gallery Cape Town launches Index, a solo exhibition by acclaimed artist Jeremy Wafer.
Through a lens both personal and political, he offers revisions and reworkings of elements from previous bodies of work, which allows them to gain new meaning and different understandings through their relational context.
The principal medium is sculptural installation, which he uses to explore ideas around location, boundaries, and constructed borders. Alongside sculptural elements, the exhibition includes site-specific large-scale wall drawings and two-dimensional works, which are distinctive to his practice.
Wafer reflects over constituents seen throughout his own career, to create a space to consider his personal geography, and the mental architecture of his life. The overall installation suggests both the vulnerability and constructed nature of personal locations.
The artist, who was featured in the South African pavilion of the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015, says of his new work: that it “picks up, in varying degrees, on older beginnings and some older work, but locates these in an ongoing conversation.”
