Jaou Photo: Le Corps Dans Tous Ses Etats

Jaou returns for its sixth edition after the impact of a global health crisis under the theme Le Corps Dans Tous Ses Etats/the body in all its dimensions, with a focus on photography, image making and moving images more broadly. With its location in Tunis at the crossroads of the Mediterranean, the Arab World and Africa, Jaou Photo aims to bring together photographers and artists from all walks of life alongside galleries, art critics, intellectuals, and academics in an event of international scope.

Continuing the precedent of Jaou for thoughtful engagement and of making contemporary art practices and thought accessible, they have developed a programme of exhibitions, talks, and performances that highlight the city of Tunis as a central point between geographies and a meeting place of people and ideas.

These include exhibitions by curators Simon Njami, Olfa Feki, and Karim Sultan, which engage with the city itself as a site of display in the heart of Tunis, B7L9, and historic structures. A programme of roundtable discussions and keynote talks curated by Stephanie Bailey brings together artists and thinkers from Tunis and around the world to discuss themes urgent locally and internationally, set in a former site of debate – the historical Bourse du Travail (former trade union headquarters ).

Musical, theatrical, and dance performances throughout the city highlight and bring together artists from Tunis and beyond. An exhibition of video works and films, a first-ever in Tunis on this scale, will be presented in in partnership with the Biennial of the Moving Image (BIM).
