Frieze London 2018

Frieze London returns to Regent’s Park from 4-7 October 2018 and will showcase the best of international contemporary art, with a discerning selection of around 160 galleries presenting their most forward-thinking artists and imaginative presentations.

New collaborations with international curators, institutions and galleries will respond to contemporary issues – from the lack of visibility of women in the marketplace to hidden systems of communication and control – and create an exceptional environment for creativity and discovery.

Social Work will feature eight women artists who challenged the status quo and explored the possibilities of political activism in their art making during the 1980s and ‘90s. Explore the artists Sonia Boyce, Helen Chadwick, Ipek Duben, Tina Keane, Mary Kelly, Faith Ringgold, Berni Searle and Nancy Spero.

Live, the fair’s platform for performance will feature nine artworks throughout the fair, including Liz Glynn’s interactive dance, responding to live data at the fair; Julia Scher’s roaming security guards and surveillance installation; Otobong Nkanga‘s performances, drawings, tapestries, photographs, videos and installations that examine ideas around land and the value connected to natural resources and Pratchaya Phinthong’s exchange of counterfeit currency, revealing the value that politics places on people.

Frieze Talks will explore the role of autobiography in art with international participants including Laurie Anderson, Nan Goldin, Kemang Wa Lehulere and Olivia Laing

Bringing together 33 galleries from Cape Town to Los Angeles, Focus features galleries aged 12 years or younger and is advised for the first time by Andrew Bonacina (Hepworth Wakefield) in collaboration with Laura McLean-Ferris (Swiss Institute, New York). Among others blank (Cape Town) will present the work of three artists from South Africa: Bronwyn Katz, Donna Kukama, and Cinga Samson exploring the politics of place, history and memory

Presentation highlights across the fair’s section include solo, group and curated presentations featuring John Baldessari, Michaël Borremans, Zadie Xa, Lubaina Himid, Mary Kelly, Moshekwa Langa, Calvin Marcus, Jim Shaw, David Shrigley, Josh Sperling, Tatiana Trouvé, Hardeep Pandhal, Athena Papadopoulos, Faith Ringgold, Wong Ping and Cathy Wilkes, among many others.

Warsaw and London-based artist Alex Baczynski-Jenkins is the 2018 winner of the Frieze Artist Award, a major opportunity for an emerging artist to present a new artwork at Frieze London. The 2018 Artist Award will focus for the first time on performance and is produced in partnership with Delfina Foundation, London.

Curated by Diana Campbell Betancourt, the 2018 Frieze Film programme feature new commissions by the Otolith Group, Paul Pfeiffer and Lucy Raven will premiere at the fair and be broadcast on national television. Frieze Film is supported by Channel 4’s Random Acts.

The fair will launch the inaugural Camden Arts Centre Emerging Artist Prize at Frieze, joining long-standing museum collaborations such as the Frieze Tate Fundsupported by Endeavor and the Contemporary Art Society Collections Fund at Frieze.
