CEL: Foundations

Berlin11 September 2025 - 19 October 2025
CEL: Foundations

CEL: Foundations

On the occasion of Berlin Art Week, LAS Art Foundation presents a newly commissioned audio-visual installation, Christelle Oyiri Dead God Flow, and the live event series Foundations, by collective CEL -an artist-led live event series that uses music, performance, and discussion to explore alternative futures- at CANK in Neukölln, Berlin.

Foundations begins a long-term, touring project by art collective CEL. CEL’s aim is to platform Black art, music and creative activism in new ways and thereby foster alternative ecosystems for artists to thrive. Their live event series, presented by LAS Art Foundation at CANK, invites us to consider alternative futures through DJ-nights, performances, workshops and talks. Led by multidisciplinary artists Shannen SP and GLOR1A, CEL grows out of the exhibition Nine Nights: Channel B, which they co-presented at the ICA London in 2021.

The London-based collective CEL platforms Black art, music and creative activism across many settings, ranging from night clubs to art institutions. Foundations launches a long-term, touring project which aims to link artists, genres and discourses beyond regional configurations. CEL understands art as a space for experimenting with alternative forms of organisation and imagination. With Foundations, it wants to prototype a new ecosystem for Black artistic innovation and invites local and international collaborators to, in author Octavia Butler’s words, write themselves into a precarious future.
