June 01, 2017, 6:00 pm Art & Life in a Nairobi Slum Artist-Talk with the activist, artist and farmer Laurence Mwangi Moderation: Barbara Meyer, artistic director Schlesische27, und Heidi Walter, CEF Help. Ahmed Hamed is a multimedia journalist, photographer and film maker from Cairo, Egypt. Ahmed worked for the Aswat Masriya non-profit media project from Aug 2012 to March 2017. He is an international award winner and got prices for his photos from UNESCO, the UN alliance of civilizations and the EU. He has special interest in his work for old cities and the challenging situation of preserving their authentic taste and scents. https://about.me/hamedahmed Shabu Mwangi was born in 1985 and began practicing in art in 2003. He lives and works in the Mukuru slum, Nairobi where he established the Wajukuu Art Project in 2013. He’s is deeply convicted to his work, in which he highlights the life of disadvantaged minorities in his community. Deeply concerned by society’s inequality and our lack of empathy for people with a different social, political, ethnic or religious background, his work seeks to examine human behavior and our collective amnesia. He has worked with art2be and Hope Worldwide and had several exhibitions including Pop-Up Africa, 2014, GAFRA, London; Out of the Slum, 2012 Essen, Germany, as well as various group and solo exhibitions in Nairobi. http://africanah.org/shabu-mwangi/
