THE SOUL STATION comprises a newly commissioned work alongside a survey of video games created by Brathwaite-Shirley over the past five years. Through immersive installations and fictional worlds, visitors explore their ethical, political, and moral decision-making within broader contexts of marginalization.
Presented by LAS Art Foundation at Halle am Berghain, the exhibition unfolds in a haunting, low-poly environment reminiscent of early PlayStation aesthetics, filled with uncanny beings. The narrative, driven by a player-voting system, tells of a society in revolt against globalized slavery, racism and transphobia, inviting participants to shape the outcome.
Visitors navigate the exhibition using “Personal Code,” which tracks choices and progress at interactive “SOUL STATIONS” throughout the space. The journey confronts them with their biases, decisions, and the power of collective action. Questions around guilt, prejudices, hate, and beliefs arise, while visitors are invited to let their souls enter a process of rejuvenation.
