Six prestigious prizes are being awarded among the 58 artists selected for the official international lineup.
The 15th Dakar Biennale is currently underway, and this year’s award winners have been announced. Six prestigious prizes are being awarded among the 58 artists selected for the official international lineup.
The Léopold Sédar Senghor Grand Prize, conferred by the President of the Republic, was awarded to Agnès Brezephin from Martinique for her work Fil(s) de soi (e). This top honor includes a prize of 20 million FCFA and was presented by Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The Head of State’s Grand Prize, the “Léopold Sédar Senghor” Award, the Award for the Best Sculpture goes to Jamaican artist Sonia Barrett for her work Map-lective.
The City of Dakar Mayor’s Prize went to Senegalese artist Manel Ndoye for Portée culturelle.
The West African Economic and Monetary Union Prize was awarded to Togolese artist Clay Apenouvon for Grande fenêtre sur le large.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Integration Prize was presented to Dior Thiam for the series Particles 1 and Particles 2.
Lastly, the Youth, Sports, and Culture Minister’s Revelation Prize was awarded to Ugandan artist Ronald Odur for The Fabric of Identity.
